We all know Raksha Bandhan is nearing and sisters who are waiting for the festival are finding themselves in a big dilemma now. They do not know on which day the festival falls.

But don’t you worry!

We are here to sort this out for you!

According to the Hindu Shashtras Rakshabandhan is celebrated on Shraavan Poornima (that is August 20th this year). So if we go by Indian customs, the festival should be celebrated on August 20th. However, this year the Bhadra Nakshatra coincides with Raksha Bandhan day i.e. August 20thBhadra Nakshatra starts from 9:36 in the morning and continues till 8:33 in the night. As per the Hindu Shashtras, Bhadra Nakshatra is highly inauspicious and thus one should not indulge in any task during this period.

Sisters should thus not celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan during Bhadra Nakshatra (i.e. on August 20th).

On the other hand, the following day i.e. August 21st, is the Dhanishtha Nakshatra and it is auspicious for celebrating Raksha Bandhan.

Sisters can now leave all their worries behind and go on to enjoy the festival on August 21st with full fervor.
